Software defined Networking
In the last 15 years the topic of SDN - Software defined Networking - has become more prevelent in the industry and since about 2015 I've been exposed to these concepts as well and have steadily learned new techonlogies.

During a short stint at a small Tech Startup in 2014/2015 I was invovled in supporting their in-house Software defined networking infrastructure, which was running on FreeBSD VMs hosted on a VMware Hypervisor environment running on Cisco UCS and NXOS hardware. This was very challanging to manage due to the proprietry nature of the environment but the steep learning curve helped me understand the underlying concepts of of software defined networking, such as the seperation of control, management and data plane.
In the years 2020 to 2022 we've completed a large Data Center Migration Program which involved consolidation, virtualization and relocation of all OnPrem computing resources to a Colocation hosted setup. This involved the shift to VMware NSX-T with the introduction of Policy control via Tagging and microsegementation for more security crtitical workloads.
After being the lead engineers in the previous WAN migration project to an all L2 private underlay and GET-VPN overlay we had a WAN refresh Project in 2022 that focused on cost reduction through the use of public Internet underlay. I was very happy to be once again selected as the lead engineer and this time also asked to architect the solution.
Most recently in 2024 we are working on the refurbishment of the Dublin Headquaters office and are introducing Cisco Software defined Access for the entire Campus. I have been entrusted to take the role of the lead engineer on this time critical endeavor and am currently working on the Low Level design and deployment of the staging environment.
